In Red Dead Redemption 2 your horse can die. This can happen when you hit a tree, your horse receives too much damage during a firefight or gets gravely injured by a predator. Falling from great heights is also deadly.
These events can have one of the two outcomes: your horse either dies or gets gravely injured. If you can't heal it, you will have to kill your horse. Your horse leaves the saddle with all its belongings. On this page, we focus on a few situations that can be deadly for your horse, and what you have to do with the saddle.
Arthur and his horse die
Whether you die both during a firefight or by falling from great heights, the game will load the last save. However, if your horse dies seconds before you, the game will give you another horse. Your saddle is automatically moved on a new mount, but this horse won't have the same bond level as the one before.
Taking the saddle from a stable
Leave your saddle near the dead horse when you are away from stable and other horses. Run towards the nearest stable. There, you can choose another animal or buy a new one. After that, the game will put your saddle automatically. Thanks to that you can use all your items from the previous equipment. You don't lose anything, and no one steals from you.
Moving a saddle
Remove the saddle from when you are near a stable or your horse, and place it on another mount. Thanks to that you can immediately ride on another horse.
However, don't take the saddle with you when your horse dies, and you have no stables or other horses nearby.
