From this page of the guide to God of War Ragnarok, you will learn how to save the game - we explain whether you can use manual and auto saves. You will also learn about restarting checkpoints and transferring saves from PS4 to PS5.
Manual and auto saves
God of War Ragnarok has the option of making manual saves on various slots. Manual saves can come in handy especially before entering a potentially dangerous location - if it proves too challenging, you can simply load that save. Manual saves can also help you to fulfill the requirements of some trophies.
The game also creates autosaves on its own, always in the background. A new autosave can occur, for example, after entering a new location, after solving a puzzle or winning a battle.
Restarting and loading the game
In the pause menu you can:
- Restart checkpoint - This is helpful if, for example, you do something wrong during a battle and want to restart it with a full health bar.
- Load game - You can select from the tabs with manual and automatic saves. You can also select the tab with all your saves.
Important note - After loading a manual save, you will not return to exactly the same place where it was created. The game will take you to the nearest checkpoint you passed before making that save.
Transferring saves from PS4 to PS5
God of War Ragnarok has the option of transferring saves from PS4 to PS5. This is helpful if you started the game on PlayStation 4 and want to continue it on PlayStation 5 without restarting the whole story. You can do it in the PS4 System tab.
The option will only work if the PS4 saves are on the PS5 disk. You can:
- Copy the PS4 saves to a USB stick, plug it into PlayStation 5 and copy it to the console's disk;
- Start the PS4, send the game saves to the cloud (requires PlayStation Plus) and download them on PS5.
