AC Odyssey: Can I tame a pet? Assassin's Creed Odyssey Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: Thursday, December 22, 2022
You can attack wild animals you encounter during the course of the game to get experience and valuable crafting materials, however there is also a possibility of taming wild beasts that may stand on your way in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. On this page we have described how you can tame wild animals and how they may serve as your support in the game.
Beast Master
The option of taming wild animals is initially unavailable in the game. You must purchase an active skill called "Beast Master". This is a Hunter Ability and it becomes available for unlocking when you advance to level 10.
The first level of Beast Master skill allows you to tame wolves only. On the second level you can tame leopards, lions and lynxes. Bears are added to the species list at the highest - third level. If you like this skill, it is definitely worth to develop it further, as new species of animals that can be tamed are much stronger and more helpful at the same time. In our view, using the Beast Ruler's skills is not a good idea to play an effective game. Even the strongest tamed animals can easily die and, unlike the hero's mount, they do not come back to life after a while (more about this in the rest of the text).
The game does not allow you to tame legendary animals associated with the Daughters of Artemis quest line (the first such animal is the Kalydonian boar). However, you can tame alpha males staying in lairs on the map. They are also ideal "candidates" as they are larger and stronger than other animals of the same species.
Taming pets and predators
Assassin's Creed Odyssey unfortunately does not allow you to tame dogs and other pets. You can't interact with them in any way in order to pet them, for example.
In order to tame a predator, you must weaken it sufficiently during the fight and stun it. The Spartan kick is best used here - use it after the attacked animal has low amount of health points. Then approach the stunned animal and press the tame button.
The tamed animal automatically follows the hero and helps him to fight or distract opponents. However, you need to know that wild animals (even male alphas) are not very strong and can be easily defeated by enemies. It is worth to support them when fighting enemies. The death of an animal companion is irreversible - you have to tame another animal.
You can have only one animal tamed at a time. If you are not satisfied with the "cooperation", you can approach your pet and send it back to the wild. But be aware that it can attack the hero right away and you will have to kill him.
