On this page of the Hogwarts Legacy guide, we inform whether you can breed your own animals, what kind of animals are available and how to care for them. We will also tell you the benefits of having a menagerie and whether animals will accompany you in exploring Hogwarts.
Can pets be companions?
Yes, you can have pets in Hogwarts Legacy , but they are not typical companions, i.e. they do not travel with you as guardians or helpers. Some of them can be used as mounts, such as hippogriffs or thestrals.
Below is a list of activities you can do with your pets:
- playing - you can use toys found in the Beast toybox. Some of them are adapted to a specific animal species, for example, the ball for Mooncalf resembles the moon.
- feeding - this can be done manually, but a Beast feeder can also be used for this. Feeding certain animals can provide crafting materials.
- combing - can be done with conjured tools, this activity can also result in additional materials.
- naming - you can name each animal you own.
You can keep animals in a menagerie designed for this purpose, the entrance to which is in the Room of Requirement (we have described it in detail on a separate page of the guide). In addition to filling this space with your creatures, you also have rather big freedom to modify and arrange it.
When it comes to communication with animals, Poppy Sweeting from Hufflepuff, one of the companions, will help you.
What animals can you keep?
The list of animals you can take care of in the game includes Thestrals and Nifflers. Some of them will be friendly towards you, while others will be hostile. So there are two ways to get them:
- tame - this applies to, for example, Graphorns, with whom you will have to fight, but you can also tame them.
- rescue - applies to sick or young animals. You can take them to your menagerie to care for them and heal them.
You catch animals using a magic briefcase, known from the adventures of Newt Scamander. Thanks to it, you can also summon mounts at any time, for example Hippogriffs.
