Unlocking the Room of Requirement in the main story
The Room of Requirement is a secret location in Hogwarts, but you can't reach it right away when you first arrive at the castle. A few hours after starting the game, you should unlock the Room of Requirement main quest - its objective is to unlock access to the room and learn about its most important features.
Professor Weasley and Deek will introduce you to the Room of Requirement - the quest to unlock the Room of Requirement is in our walkthrough.
The Room of Requirement is a safe location that you can use as a base. You can do numerous activities here, e.g. crafting or loot identification. The most important features of the Room of Requirement are described further down the page.
Returning to the Room of Requirement later in the game
You can find the entrance to the Room of Requirement in the Astronomy Wing, but it's much easier to get there from the Hogwarts map.
After opening the map, find the Secret Rooms icon (picture).
After selecting the Secret Rooms, you will find the Room of Requirement as one of the destinations (there are Floo Flames in the Room of Requirement).
The most important features of the Room of Requirement
The most important interactive objects and areas in the Room of Requirement are:
Desk of Description - It is used to identify unknown items that you found as loot. The process is free and necessary if you want to equip that item. We've covered this in more detail on the FAQ page - How to identify items?.
Potions Station - You can brew potions with it, but you must have their recipes (to be unlocked in the storyline or purchased in Hogsmeade) and the ingredients needed to create a given potion.
Potting Table - You can use it to plant seeds and grow crops, but you must have seeds (they can be purchased in Hogsmeade). Additionally, only small pots are initially available and not all types of seeds can be used.
Enchanted Loom - It is not available during the first visit to the Room of Requirement. You will learn how to use it only after unlocking The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom main quest. Thanks to it, you can upgrade elements of equipment - increase their stats and give them new magical properties.
Vivarium - It is not available during the first visit to the Room of Requirement. You will learn how to use it only after unlocking The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom main quest. They are most easily described as a separate dimension where captured beasts can be bred. This will allow you to take care of them and obtain unique crafting ingredients (e.g. their feathers).
Placing objects and decorating the Room of Requirement
Conjuring Spell allows you to place objects in the Room of Requirement - you will learn it during your first visit. After casting the spell, a list of categories of items to be conjured will appear.
You can choose from a list of different interactive stations and decorations. The game allows you to precisely adjust the location of the object (it must not collide with walls and other objects). Additionally, for some items, you can change their color or style.
You can unlock new decorations as you progress through the game and find them in the game world as secrets.
Other options for modifying the Room of Requirement are:
- Changing the size of objects - Use the Altering Spell, which you will learn in the Interior Decorating side quest. You can use it on one of the objects in the Room of Requirement and change its dimensions.
- Changing the decor - you have to talk to Deek and choose a style that suits you (e.g. mysterious in the example in the picture above).
How to get Moonstone?
Many actions in the Room of Requirement require a Moonstone - it's one of the ingredients.
You will learn the first way while completing the main quest - using the Evanesco spell on selected interactive objects (chairs in the example from the picture).
The second way is simpler and available from the beginning of the game - you need to find blue crystals in the game world (e.g. north of Hogwarts) and break them with the basic cast, thanks to which they will drop the ingredient you are looking for.
