Engine is the heart of every ship in Dredge. On this page of the guide, we list all available Engine variants, show how to unlock them, and supply their statistics. Moreover, we show what engines are the best - with a good unit, sailing becomes easier and you'll be able to do more within the same timeframe.
- Peculiar Engine
- Weak Valve Engine
- Rusty Outboard Engine
- Improved Outboard Engine
- Jet Drive Engine
- Refined Outboard Engine
- Twin Prop Engine
- Twin Jet Drive Engine
- Engine Stack
Peculiar Engine
- Installation time: 2 hours
- Speed: 14kn
- Cargo slots occupied: 2
This is the engine with which you start the game. Unfortunately, there is not much to say about this one - sailing with it is a chore.
Weak Valve Engine
- Installation time: 3 hours
- Speed: 18.9kn
- Cargo slots occupied: 3
This unit can be found as loot. It takes 3 cargo slots (you can rotate it to fit more loot in the cargo).
Rusty Outboard Engine
- Price: $100 - bought at the Shipwright in Greater Marrow .
- Installation time: 2 hours
- Speed: 10kn
- Cargo slots occupied: 2
This is the weakest engine offered by Shipwrights. Buy it only if you want to have 2 working engines during your initial adventures.
Improved Outboard Engine
- Research Parts: 1 (visit the Shipwright after donating the parts)
- Price: $200
- Installation time: 2 hours
- Speed: 15kn
- Cargo slots occupied: 2
This is one of the weakest engines that can be installed on the ship. Its stats are close to the starting engine.
Jet Drive Engine
- Research Parts: 5 (go to the Shipwright after donating the parts)
- Price: $300
- Installation time: 1 hour
- Speed: 9kn
- Cargo slots: 1
A great engine that only takes up 1 cargo slot. This means that you can easily add more engines, increasing the horse power. For example, a ship with 4 Jet Drive Engines is more powerful than 2 standard engines taking up 4 slots (36kn instead of 25 or 35). We recommend saving Research Parts to unlock this project as fast as possible.
Refined Outboard Engine
- Research Parts: 2 (go to the Shipwright after donating the parts)
- Price: $300
- Installation time: 3 hours
- Speed: 25kn
- Cargo slots: 4
This engine performs worse than four Jet Drive Engines (one Refined Outboard Engine takes 4 slots), but only 2 Research Parts are required to develop it.
Twin Prop Engine
- Research Parts: 3 (go to the Shipwright after donating the parts)
- Price: $450
- Installation time: 4 hours
- Speed: 35kn
- Cargo slots: 4
A good choice if you have 4 free engine slots and don't want to spend 5 Research Parts on the Jet Drive Engine project.
Twin Jet Drive Engine
- Research Parts: 4 (visit a Shipwright after dontating the parts)
- Price: $500
- Installation time: 5 hours
- Speed: 50kn
- Cargo slots: 5
A good engine with a lot of power, unfortunately it takes up 5 slots in the cargo hold. However, it is a good choice if you combine it with the Jet Drive Engine.
Engine Stack
- Research Parts: 5 (visit a Shipwright after dontating the parts)
- Price: $750
- Installation time: 6 hours
- Speed: 65kn
- Cargo slots: 5
The best engine available in the game. If you have a fully upgraded ship, combined with two Jet Drive Engines, your boat will be really fast. Despite the high cost, it is worth investing in it.
