While playing Diablo IV, you may have problems with monsters attacking you when, e.g. you want to check the inventory or browse skill trees. Our guide tells you whether the game has a pause and where in the world of D4 you can feel 100% safe.
Getting attacked while in the menu
Diablo 4 is an always online game, which in some respects can be treated as an MMO. This means that there is no pause, because you cannot stop the game world with just one player.
Be careful, because enemies can attack you while idle or checking the menus. It's best to display those menus that only take up part of the screen. This will make it easier for you to spot approaching monsters.
If you opened a fullscreen menu, enemy attacks will be represented by the red edges of the screen. Quickly turn off the menu so you can defend yourself.
Safe locations
The best way to check the menu or take a break is to return to any city or village. These are safe locations where the use of weapons is prohibited. Monsters can't enter them. If you are far from a town, use the scroll to teleport to it (Town Portal).
