Playable characters
In God of War Ragnarok, you once again assume control of Kratos and Atreus - the hero duo known from the previous installment of the series, the 2018 God of War. It should be noted here, that Kratos, as the game's main character, is the hero that has more to say in terms of equipment and skills, albeit Atreus has his own skill tree and can use items dedicated to him - bows and enhancements.
Active companions - you can issue commands to them
Aside from the controlled hero, you'll be accompanied by various independent companions. In God of War Ragnarok, there are following active companions available:
- Atreus,
- Freya,
- Angrboda,
- Brok,
- Sindri,
- Thrud.
Independent companions
As you progress through God of War Ragnarok, you will also be joined by characters that cannot be controlled and these are:
- Tyr,
- Thor,
- Heimdall.
Issuing commands
Companions in God of War Ragnarok follow the player-led protagonist, participate in conversations, and provide guidance when you won't know what to do to push the plot forward. You can issue commands to some companions (L2 Square) to use their respective abilities in battle or when you need their help solving environmental puzzles.
