While playing Hogwarts Legacy, you may encounter Unidentified Items - they cannot be used until their stats are revealed. On this page of the guide, you will learn how to identify equipment items and whether it is free.
Unidentified Item as loot
After spending the first few hours with the game, you will start finding unidentified items. They are marked with a question mark icon when picked up and you can find them, for example, when getting loot from chests.
Unidentified items cannot be equipped, but they go to the inventory. You can only find out what category this item is, but all its other stats are hidden.
We do not advise you to blindly dispose of unidentified items, especially if it is a high-quality item (e.g. purple or orange).
Identifying items with question marks
Merchants from the game world can't, unfortunately, identify items marked with question marks. You have to wait to unlock the main quest Room of Requirement before solving the problem - you should get it around 7-10 hours into the game.
As part of the aforementioned quest, you will reach the room of the same name. From now on, it will also appear on the list of fast travel points - on the Hogwarts map, you can select the category Secret rooms and then Room of Requirement Floo Flames.
After reaching the Room of Requirement, interact with the desk shown in picture 1. Identification of items is free - their names appear on the right side of the screen. You can now go to your inventory and check their exact stats.
