This section of the Grand Theft Auto V game guide describes golf. We explain how to play it in GTA 5, what are the most important rules of this mini-game, and how to win golf tournaments.
In GTA full golf game may have at max 9 holes. The rules are simple. You have to put the ball in the hole in the smallest amount of hits you can. Each hole has a suggested number of hits. If you make it within this number, you don't have any points. Each hit below par is a negative point, and each over par is a plus point. Points have their own names:
- -3 - Double Eagle
- -2 - Eagle
- -1 - Birdie
- E - Par
- +1 - Bogey
- +2 - Double Bogey
- +3 - Triple Bogey
The game wins the one with the smallest number of total hits.
Before a hit, you have to aim at the place you want to hit with the right analog. You can change your club to increase or decrease your range (up and down on D-Pad), but the game will adjust the proper club itself and, in general, you can rely on that (unless there are some specific situations like you don't want to hit into a lake for sure so switch into a weaker club). Try to aim in the brightest grass (hitting from elsewhere weakens power and precision) and avoid all obstacles on your way, like trees and brushes. By pressing right trigger you can check the way of hit and make sure that there are no visible obstacles. Notice also force and direction of the wind. Wind 3 will move the ball strongly aside so remember about it and change the aiming.
When you choose a club and place of hit, push the left analog down to begin a swing. Observe the motion of the horizontal line. When it's in the middle of yellow field, push the analog up to hit. The more away the line is from the yellow field, the worse hit will be. When the ball is flying, you can change its direction with the left analog and pressing A/X.
When the ball is in the brightest part of the grass, you can use putter for a precise, short hits. The best is to aim a bit behind a hole. Remember about the wind and move the sight a bit aside. This club is less sensitive for wind, so you should be careful with corrections.
To finish golf to 100% game completion, you have to win match for all 9 holes.
