The Bitter End is one of the storyline Pursuits that you will have to complete to get the Shimmering Necklace Relic. From this page you will learn where to get the Airman quest, how to find the Mortar Frame and Mortar Barrel, and how to set traps for Mind Sucker monsters.

On this page of our Dredge guide, you can find a walkthrough for Pursuit called The Bitter End, which is one of the story quests. Here we show what to do in order to obtain Shimmering Necklace Relic.

unlocking the Quest - reaching Camp and Airman
To start the Pursuit, visit the Camp in Twisted Strand. The path to this dock leads through narrow passages. We've show the right way in the screenshot above.
The passageways are extremely narrow, so steer carefully to avoid damaging the vessel. If you are in need of repairs, you can visit the nearby Rickety Pontoon.
If you're having problems with finding the right way, use the signposts that lead directly to Camp.
Once docked in Camp, talk to Airman who will tell you his story and ask for help in avenging his comrades. The first part of the quest will be to deliver the Mortar Frame and Mortar Barrel.
Be careful, as in the search area are monsters called Mind Suckers. They can add to your Panic, which may cause hallucinations in form of attacking vines, making it harder to navigate through this obstacle-riddled area.
Finding Mortar Frame and Mortar Barrel

The Mortar Frame is found next to one of the crashed planes. Check out the map above to find this area easily. To reach it, when leaving the corridor, turn right, make a bend and go straight.
Search the wreck and move Mortar Frame to your inventory.
The Mortar Barrel can be found east of Camp . When leaving the dock, turn slightly left and go straight.
You should encounter another crashed plane. Search it to find the Mortar Barrel. Return to Camp and give the items to Airman. The man will ask for another favor.
Your task is to prepare 3 types of bait to create Mind Sucker traps. This will involve catching certain types of fish and delivering them to the questgiver.
Preparation of bait (1/3) - Gray Mullet and Gar
The first bait requires:
- 2x Gray Mullet - a very common fish in the Twisted Strand area. You will find numerous fishing spots with this specimen ( #1 on the map above), but visit them at day.
- 1x Gar - this species can also be found in Twisted Strand during the day ( #2 on the map above).
The freshness and status of the fish doesn't matter in this case. Even if the fish is Rotten, Trophy or Infected, the Airman will accept it anyway. However, it cannot be of an Aberration variety.
Give the fish to Airman and he will create the bait - place it in your inventory.
Preparation of bait (2/3) - Longfin Eel
The second bait will require 2 Longfin Eel . This species is only found at night, but a fishery with it is right next to Camp, so this should be easy.
Return to Airman and move 2 Longfin Eel to the slots on the left side of screen to receive the bait. Place it in your inventory.
Preparation of bait (3/3) - Gray Mullet and Catfish
For the third bait, you need:
- 1x Gray Mullet - an exemplary fishery is marked with #1 in the picture above - make sure to visit it during the day.
- 1x Catfish - Catfish fisheries are rare and can only be accessed at night. The closest Fishery of this type can be found by turning right after crossing the corridor leading away from Camp (#2 in the screenshot above).
After successfully catching the required fish, return to Airman to get the third bait. Time to set up the Mind Sucker traps.
Placing bait in Traps
If you placed the bait in Storage earlier, now it is time to move them to Cargo. We've marked the locations where you need to place the bait in the map found above. You only need to place the bait - Airman will take care of everything. The approach is the same for each trap:
Approach the trap, interact with it and select the Load the trap with Bait option . The placing will be automatic - you don't need to move anything from your inventory.
Now wait for the monsters to appear. Once taken care of, swim up to the monster's carcass and collet Chunk of Flesh from it.
Repeat the same with 2 remaining traps. Once you have 3 Chunk of Flesh in your hold, return to the Airman.
Talking to Airman and getting the Shimmering Necklace
Airman will thank you for your help in avenging his comrades and will give you a special reward - Shimmering Necklace . This is one of the Relics which are the subject of the Collector quest.
From now on, you'll also be able to ask Airman to prepare Bait for you every time you deliver the needed Fish.
