The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Our impressions
Important! Our impressions are based on the 1.04 version of the PC game and 1.03 version of the PlayStation 4 edition. The game's performance should be improved with the next updates.
Witcher 3 is a game that has been released on few gaming platforms. The creators of this guide have played the PC and PS4 versions of the game. PC version requires a powerful hardware.
During the game glitches haven't happened frequently, only once in Novigrad not all textures has loaded completely. It might lead to some funny situations but it's not a bug that happens regularly and after loading the saved game, everything went back to normal. There were some troubles with the horse - after summoning it, the animal sometimes appeared at places where it couldn't move. The game sometimes stopped working after frequent minimizing, especially when the equipment window was opened. We haven't noticed any more serious bugs like disappearing textures or invisible objects.
PlayStation 4 version is sadly far from perfect. The game regularly suffers from frame drops. The number of frames per second drips below thirty during larger battles, in situations when there is much fire on the screen, when Geralt uses his witcher senses and while traveling through the largest cities in the game. The good news is we haven't experienced any bugs related to completing quests and the looks of the game world. Only after using the quick travel, the game sometimes needs more time to load all textures.
Our hardware
In case of PC version we used the following configuration:
- OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
- Processor: Intel i5-3450S
- RAM: 8 GB
- GPU: Radeon HD7970
On the above configuration the game worked fluently at medium details with all post-processing effects and HBAO+ activated. 30 FPS was achieved with no drops. Using an SSD disc is recommended because long loading times occur when using quick travel to move between locations and when loading the game saves.
