AC Odyssey: How to get crafting materials? Assassin's Creed Odyssey Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: Thursday, December 22, 2022
Crafting materials are very important in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. They are one of the requirements for upgrading weapons and pieces of armor. A character with lesser-quality equipment can have problems with eliminating enemies and completing quests. This page contains information on what resources are in the game and how to get crafting materials.

The most important information about the materials
The game has 6 types of crafting materials - Soft Leather, Iron Metal, Olive Wood, Ancient Tablets, Obsidian Glass and Precious Gems. You can check your supplies by visiting a blacksmith or by pausing the game. They are displayed at the top of the screen.
There is no capacity limit for resources. The more you have, the better. This also reduces a risk of being forced to go and search for missing materials.
Travel at night to spot supplies with ease, even without using Revelation ability.
Acquiring materials
Tips on finding specific resources can be found in the later part of the guide. However, there are general ways of getting them.
One of the main sources of getting supplies is to receive them as loot - you can find them by exploring the world and searching various interactive containers and corpses of your enemies. Revelation ability is very useful here - it highlights resources and other interactive objects around you. Look for war supplies similar to those presented in the picture above. Search them before you burn the supplies. Thanks to that you will get a lot of materials.
Another general way of getting resources is to buy them at a blacksmith. Sadly, crafting materials offered by merchants are rather expensive. Every trader offers different supplies. Purchase them only when you need a few units of a given supply to upgrade your gear.
Important note - There is a way to change a blacksmith's offer if he doesn't sell materials that you currently need. Close the trade window, move away from this location and then go back to it. Speak with the blacksmith again - it is possible that he will offer different crafting materials. This method also works when you need more resources than the amount offered by a blacksmith.
You can also dismantle useless weapons and pieces of armor. Do that with all regular (grey) items. "Colored" items are more useful to you. Also, regular items aren't worth much.
Silver Mine - perfect source of resources
A unique place to obtain large amounts of crafting materials (including those raw materials that are less common in the game) is the Silver Mine, which is located in the Attika region in the central part of the map of the world.
The mine itself and the adjacent camp (Lavrio Silver Mine) are guarded by enemies. However, if you manage to deal with them, you can find plenty of deposits inside the mine. In particular, look for deposits marked in blue (example is shown in the picture) and violet. By looting the mine you can get a lot of iron, obsidian glass and precious jewels. You should also consider returning to it later in the game, cause the deposits should be renewed.
Soft Leather
Hunt wild animals to get Soft Leather. Use a bow to hunt animals that can run away (goats, deer etc.). Predators (i.e. wolves) will attack you once you get closer to them.
Note - The bigger and stronger the animal, the more hides you can acquire. It is worth to e.g. seek occasions to kill bears that will yield even several dozen more hides for you to use when crafting.
Iron Metal
Iron Metal can be found in deposits - you can come across them when you are exploring the world, especially areas near caves. This material can also be received as a loot from dead enemies.
Olive Wood
Olive Wood is acquired by interacting with small trees - the picture above shows an example.
Ancient Tablets
Ancient Tablets are rare. Look for them in locations marked with a question mark (they are usually historical locations or ruins). The picture 1 shows an example of this type of a location. Search it thoroughly (the picture 2). A single finding should add 4 Ancient Tablets to your inventory.
Note - if you really need ancient tablets, but you can't find any in the ruins, where they should be, try the local blacksmiths. They may be selling some. These are expensive items, but you don't need many of them to pay for the upgrades. If there are no tablets in stock - leave, and come back later. When you come back, his stock could be new. You can also visit another vendor.
Obsidian Glass
Obsidian Glass is one of the rare materials in the game. Its main source are unique chests, that is those that shine (see the picture above). Nation Chests hide the most resources - an example of such chest is visible in the screenshot above. You can find them e.g. in forts.
Another way to find glass is to loot the corpses of dead commanders. It can be found among other items.
Obsidian Glass can also be received as a reward for completing war contracts and winning Conquest battles. In the example above, the main protagonist receives 8 units of this resource for winning the Conquest Battle. This information is always visible in the battle summary window.
Obsidian Glass can be sometimes found in caves along with Iron Metal and other treasures.
Precious Gems
Complete quests (Bounty) to receive Precious Gems. An exemplary bounty can be seen in the screenshot above. You can find them on notice boards that are located in each large location. Also, you can accept bounties from random NPCs encountered when exploring the in-game world.
Another method of acquiring precious gems is to loot the corpses of dead mercenaries - bounty hunters roaming around the world trying to kill the main protagonist after he or she commits a crime. This resource can be found among other items looted from the mercenary.
Precious Gems can be sometimes found in caves along with Iron Metal and other treasures.
