Forging Destiny is one of the most important quests of God of War Ragnarok. Our guide shows how to forge the Draupnir Spear and how to use it correctly (combat, weak points). Moreover, we supply the solutions for puzzles in Myrkr Tunnels and the puzzle with a blocked lift in The Forge.
- Find a path to the surface
- Destroy the Nightmare Haunt to release the lift
- Repair the switch
- Forge the weapon
- Find a path down the mountain
- Return to Sindri's when ready
Find a path to the surface
The quest starts once you're back to Svartalfheim. You enter a new region - Myrkr Tunnels.
Use the Blades of Chaos on the red barrel in the picture - this will spark an explosion and allow you to go through the hole in the grate. There are monsters along the way - you can throw the Leviathan Axe at Twilight Stones to deal more damage.
As you arrive at a locked gate, set the oily substance on fire with the Blades of Chaos. A explosion will occur, unlocking a path forward.
Defeat more monsters and talk to Sindri. Move the cart and you will reach a puzzle involving Twilight Stones.
Interact with the chain and ask Freja to create a seal in the spot shown in the screenshot. Throw the Leviathan Axe at it.
You can now let go of the chain (thanks to the seal, the freezing effect is still in power) and approach the frozen object. Throw the Leviathan Axe so it bounces off the Twilight Stone and hits the shield behind the bars.
Defeat the Bergsra (watch out and dodge her red attacks) and use the new pathway.
You will reach a room with troughs and water wheels. There are 2 puzzles here. The first one is very easy. Freeze a section of the trough above the wheel (screenshot above). A narrow passage will be revealed - use it.
Deal with encountered Nightmares and other opponents. Climb to the upper ledge and reach the water through control mechanism - we show it in the screenshot above.
Interacting with the mechanism will rotate one of the throughs.
Return to the hall with troughs (you can unlock a shortcut along the way). Now for the second part of the puzzle:
- Create a seal at the highest trough (screenshot above). Now throw the Leviathan Axe at the seal.
- Retrieve the axe and hit the lower through above the second wheel i.e. the left one which you have not yet activated. The wheel will begin to turn and the exit from the room will be unlocked.
There are 2 Bergsras to face here and you can use traps - damage barrels and set the spilled substance on fire. Moreover, attack the beasts one at a time. Pick up a grate along the way and complete a climbing sequence. Back at the surface, you'll find yourself in a new region - The Forge.
Destroy the Nightmare Haunt to release the lift
Brok will become Kratos' new companion.
As you travel, destroy the monster nests you encounter to stop them from appearing. Investigate the locked gate and the lift - you'll learn that the platform leading to the forge is blocked by a nest of monsters. You'll need to get there by choosing the mountain path to the right.
Kratos and Brok will reach an area that involves a puzzle in which you need to set a wheel in motion. Start by setting bushes on fire with Blades of Chaos. This will allow you to access the lift, but there is the matter of making it move again.
Climb a nearby shelf and freeze the geyser by using the Leviathan. Move a little, retrieve the axe and throw it at the second geyser (screenshot above).
The lift is now activated. Wait for the dwarf to reach the destination and go back using the same path to get back to the lift. Stand at the platform, turn towards Brok and ask him to use the mechanism (Square). Ride up.
After exiting the lift, turn right and climb to the highest ledge. Ask Brok to use the mechanism again (Square).
You must throw the Leviathan Axe at the newly exposed geyser (screenshot above). After the geyser is frozen, ask Brok to use the mechanism one last time. The wheel will be set in motion - wait until the exit is unlocked. Retrieve the axe and reach the exit.
The new path will lead you to a locked platform - throw the axe at the monster nest and destroy it.
Return to the very bottom i.e. to the area where you've learned of the blockade. Brok and Kratos can now use the platform to reach The Forge.
Repair the switch
Reach the new mechanism with Brok, and you will find out that the lever is broken - you must help Brok repair it. It is simple - reach the interactive crystals, use the axe on them (R2) and return with the ingredients to the dwarf. Perform these actions a total of 2 times.
Forge the weapon
Return to the damaged lever - you can now use it. You'll meet The Lady of the Forge, and a new weapon will be unlocked - the Draupnir Spear. To equip it, simply press d-pad down.
You can test the new weapon right away, as a group of monsters will appear. You can perform melee attacks with the spear or throw (the supply is renewed very fast) and detonate it (Triangle). Later in the game you'll also unlock upgrades and the ability to add light and heavy runic attacks. Moreover, you've received access to the spear's skill tree - you can spend XP there on new abilities.
Find a path down the mountain
This is the first time where you need to use the spear to unlock the path forward - equip it and aim and throw at the weak point with escaping air (screenshot). After the throw, detonate the spear, and it will clear the path. You can now begin a new climbing sequence that involves the spear.
You can't aim at the holes from too large an angle, as otherwise, the spear won't correctly stick.
Further ahead, the heroes will encounter a large boulder. Destroy the nearby monster nest, and investigate the area on the left. Find a rift in which you can throw the spear (screenshot). After the spear is in place, detonate it and the barricade will be destroyed.
Squeeze between the rocks and get rid of incoming opponents.
In the new location you have to use the spear as a climbing rod for the first time. Look for a new weak point and aim and throw the spear at it. The spear will stick, and you can grab it to reach a higher ledge.
Continue the trek and use the spear to knock over another large boulder. You will reach a location where you need to face 2 ogres - to make matters easier, stun one of the beasts and jump on its back so you can use it to defeat other opponents.
After the battle is won, find another weak point and detonate the spear. There is a store along the way, but you probably don't yet have the needed resources to upgrade the spear.
Descend using the rope.
Return to Sindri's when ready
After the cut-scene depicting the meet, you need to travel to the nearest Mystic Gateway. Expect battles where you'll face, among others, Einherjar warriors - watch out for their bifrost attacks. Switch between weapons to make the battle as easy as possible.
The main path will lead you to a cart - use it.
Head toward the water. At the place in the picture, use the spear as a climbing rod. This will allow you to reach the new Mystic Gateway - Nidavellir Beach. Use it to return to Sindri's House.
Talk to Sindri and go rest. A new scene with Faye will be activated - get behind her and follow the marked route by swimming. You will return to controlling Atreus in the next main quest called Unleashing Hel.
